What is ‘It’s More Than A Smile’?
An online solution for bringing charities and volunteers together to provide dental treatment for vulnerable people.
‘It’s More Than A Smile’ (IMTAS) is a cloud-based software for managing dental services for vulnerable people needing dental treatment. A charity registered with IMTAS can refer a person for dental treatment when they cannot find, access, or do not qualify for existing regional dental services.
IMTAS dental volunteers provide essential dental services, root canal treatment, fillings, dentures, crowns and bridges and oral hygiene procedures.
IMTAS does not provide long-term dental treatment but seeks to improve a patient’s oral health and prospects while helping them return to mainstream NHS dental services.
Who is IMTAS for?
IMTAS is for homeless charities, domestic abuse agencies and other charities that support people suffering from dental problems.
Who manages IMTAS?
IMTAS is managed by the dental charity Den-Tech with the support of a software developer. Den-Tech supports oral health projects in the UK and worldwide, focusing on providing dental devices such as dentures, crowns, and bridges to those who need them most. Den-Tech partners with other charities and organisations who find and refer patients to its services.
How does it work?
When a charity partner identifies an individual struggling to find dental care, their dental needs are discussed and recorded using an online referral form. The referral is reviewed by a Den-Tech Dentist who checks that it meets our acceptance criteria. They may then accept the case outright, ask for more information or provide details for an appropriate existing service in their area.
When a case is accepted, IMTAS sends notification alerts to dental practices and laboratories with the required skills to treat the patient while coordinating all scheduling and communication.
How much does it cost?
All cases are individual, and we endeavour to keep our treatments as affordable as possible. The cost to the patient is determined by the dental clinic, lab subsidies, and Den-Tech’s assessment. In addition, we ask for a donation of what the patient feels they can afford to be made through our website. Alternatively, they can support us using services like Easy Fundraising or Amazon Smile.
How is IMTAS funded?
IMTAS requires funding raised through donations, fundraising, partnerships and collaborations, It is also supported by a dedicated team of volunteers.
