Story 1
“I would like to share a recent patient treatment story. This patient has been a victim of severe domestic abuse and initially she could not even attend the dental surgery and would need all treatment under a general anaesthetic.
Gradual acclimatisation and the application of trauma informed dentistry has enabled her to have treatment in surgery. This has included dentures made by Den-Tech through Ceramic Designs. Before having dentures she had anterior teeth missing which she was extremely self-conscious of, often causing her to avoid interaction with other people. Her new dentures have given her new confidence, enabling her to attend family events, courses at her local women’s centre and make new friends.
This has been an incredibly rewarding case to treat and I am grateful for the help and support of Den-Tech and our partners in making her dentures.”
Story 2
‘I wanted to share an uplifting patient story to highlight why this work is so important (patient consented and is keen to share anonymously).
I think I mentioned a lady I treated a while ago who had been the victim of some terrible domestic abuse where you had made a lower denture for her, which meant she felt able to attend her daughters baby shower. She’s now completed the second part of her treatment and had a loose upper tooth removed and immediate upper denture fitted to replace that and her other missing teeth. This procedure was especially emotional as this loose tooth had been partially pulled out by her perpetrator and it had always been a reminder to her of this trauma.
She doesn’t want any photos taken (I believe her perpetrator is sadly not in jail), but I saw her for a review yesterday and she walked in like a new women, she is now attending classes at her local women’s centre and has made new friends.
A lovely experience on international women’s day and a reminder of why we do what we do, especially as a female team”
